Why Dress Up?
Posted: Jan 04 2013
Many times I have heard people use the expression ‘getting dressed up, looking sharp or being dapper’. This norm in common usage but I disagree. It is not that I do not believe in making the effort to look better than presentable and never to be inappropriately dressed for the occasion but getting dressed up suggests contrivance. The wrong sort of effort, unnatural and laboured.
I say that getting dressed up is what other people do hence they have to say it, surely an aesthete merely gets dressed like everyone else?
